Honors Program Banquet
November 7, 2012
Speaker
Dr. Michael Do (Ph.D., Harvard University)
"Sensing Light for Subconscious Sight"
Dr. Do studies how the environment influences behavior. He is particularly interested in cells within the eye that directly convert light into electrical signals, then send these signals throughout the brain to regulate such diverse processes as sleep, locomotor activity, and hormone levels. His laboratory is based in the F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center of Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. A typical day in the laboratory consists of shooting beams of light at cells, measuring the electrical responses they generate, and wondering how it all works.
