BECOMING A EUREKA FRESHMAN
There are three different types of "freshmen" at Eureka. Incoming high school students. Incoming transfer students. And students entering the Lifelong Learning program.
Freshmen are
admitted based on their demonstrated potential for academic success. Your high
school transcript including the classes you have selected, your class rank, and
the grades you have achieved, along with your ACT or SAT score, provide the best
indication of your scholastic motivation and ability.
You may submit your application
for admission any time after you have completed your junior year and have taken
the ACT or SAT. Eureka processes applications on a rolling basis. You may expect
to learn the decision regarding your application within two to three weeks of
the completion of your file. However, it is recommended that freshmen complete
the application process by March 1 of their senior year. |

Not that many years ago, as a high school senior in charge of my future for the first time, becoming successful was the one long term goal I had set for myself. With this vague goal in mind, I could have easily selected any college to attend the following year. However, I felt that a childhood game of “eeny, meeny, miny, moe” might not be the best way to make such an important decision. Therefore, I did some research.
I found that most schools provided opportunities for success; Eureka College simply provided more opportunities. For instance, at Eureka, small class sizes generate more individualized instruction for all students. Everyone has the opportunity to participate in activities they are passionate about. Additionally, Eureka awards every student who meets the clearly identified criteria with funded mentorships through the Durward Sandifer Program. Other schools limit the number of awards so that only a few can take advantage of the opportunities. Of course, those opportunities are available from Eureka College as well.
I graduated with an Elementary Education major and now, TEACHING! I can confirm that the opportunities I received from Eureka have helped me to be successful in my field and in life. I became involved in Relay for Life fundraising, college ministries, and even a year on the golf team. Additionally, my last semester I interned at a school for students with dyslexia and other special needs in Oahu, Hawaii. This is my story, but all the students on this great campus, not just a select few, can share similar opportunities they have been offered.
