ANN SHOEMAKER

 

Ann Evans Shoemaker was born in Texas and raised in Ohio. She graduated from West High School in Columbus, OH. Ann and her husband, Cliff, moved to Eureka in 1978. She worked for Harrod Law Firm from 1978 – 1985.

 

Ann will retire in June after 23 years as administrative assistant for the college’s Ronald W. Reagan Leadership Program. Before that, she was the administrative assistant in the dean’s office and circulation supervisor in the Melick Library. Besides her work role, Ann has participated in the Eureka College Community Chorale and assisted with designing and constructing costumes for college theater productions. She was the inaugural recipient of the Eureka College Staff Recognition Award in 1998. She also is a member of the Eureka College Women’s Board, which raises funds for campus improvements. College officials recently announced the establishment of the Ann Shoemaker Mentorship Fund, which will help fund Reagan Fellows’ mentorship trips.

 

Ann is an elder for the Eureka Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She has served in many roles at the church including Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.

 

Ann is here tonight with her son, Chris, and daughter-in-law Julie. She is grandmother of Abby and Katie.

JAN WANACK

 

Jan Wanack of Peoria will retire in May after more than 30 years of teaching music at Eureka College. Since joining the Eureka College faculty in 1976, her teaching responsibilities have included applied voice, music history, music literature and diction. She also was coordinator of the college’s Senior Seminar Program. Last year, Wanack received the T.A. Abbott Award for Faculty Excellence from the Board of Directors of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In 2006, she received Eureka College’s Helen Cleaver Distinguished Teaching Award for excellence, creativity and innovation in teaching, and in 1992 she received the Sears Roebuck Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching and Campus Leadership.
