Can You Believe That It Is 2010 Already?

I can’t believe that I am writing 2010 on my correspondence these days! Where has the decade gone? It seems only yesterday that we were looking at the start of the new millineum. Now we are 10 years in and a little older and hopefully a little wiser. Whenever I hit a milestone like a birthday, a graduation, a new year, my first reaction is a little bittersweet. Once I take a minute to reflect through, I am reminded that a milestone, like a new year, is a great opportunity to move forward and take stock of how I’m spending my time.

There is so much to look forward to in the next few months: February  holds special travel opportunities and Alumni Weekend in April will be a great time to come home and celebrate wonderful college friendships.

I hope 2010 is a great year for you, our alumni and for our whole college community.

Eureka College Phonathon Update

Eureka College's inaugural phonathon campaign kicked off November 8th and ran through December 10th.  Twenty exceptional students dedicated their evenings to reconnecting alumni and friends to EC.  Thanks to their hard work and your commitment, Eureka College surpassed our fall semester goal with over 550 pledges to the college, coming in $5,000 over goal.  The money goes to The Moment is Now, Annual Fund for Eureka College, which provides funding for academic programs, scholarships, fine arts, sports, facility upkeep and any other operational financial support necessary.

Ancient Greek Comedy ‘The Birds’ next on Stage

The ancient Greek comedy “The Birds” by Aristophanes will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 through 27 and 2 p.m.
Feb. 28 in Pritchard Theatre at EC.

Dating to 414 B.C., the play follows two slackers from Athens after they decide to shirk the cares of the world. The men climb a mountain to find the king of the birds and convince him to appoint them governors of a city in the sky where they can live a life of ease. The fast-talkers attempt to outwit humans from home and gods from Mount Olympus to establish “Cloud Cuckoo Land” and live as free as the birds.
