This workshop is for actors of all experience levels. The small class size allows for personal instruction and individual attention. The skills learned here will help you create compelling theatrical fights with Medieval weapons. Skills that are perfect for enhancing many plays — including Shakespeare!
From students starting out and professors seeking faculty development to professionals looking to pick up extra skills, this is the course for you. This workshops offers 30 hours Group and Individual Instruction in Sword & Shield, small sword* with additional Dueling Arts Certification in Unarmed & Quarterstaff.
The 2016 Stage Combat Workshop will be held from May 16 – June 3 at Western Illinois University.
Participants will be eligible for Society of American Fight Directors Skills Proficiency Testing.
- At the end of the workshop students will be tested for Society of American Fight Directors certificate recognition
- All Skill levels welcome, but is open to individuals 18 years or older
- Participants can now earn three hours of college credit when enrolling in this workshop. See below for more information

Stage Combat Training: $2300** per person. Register by April 1 to receive a discount. Use code SC16-EARLY for the early bird tuition discount.
After April 1, registration costs will increase to $2300.
This workshop is officially sanctioned by the Society of American Fight Directors. SAFD Members in good standing for three or more years receive a $50 discount. Use coupon code SC16-SAFD at checkout.

Earn College Credits
THA 320: Stage Combat I
3 hours college credit for participation in Central Illinois Stage Combat Workshop.
This three-week workshop will teach students the art and skill of stage combat, reinforce acting skills, and based on instructor permission, will provide the opportunity to take a skills proficiency test with the Society of American Fight Directors. An administrative fee of $150 will be added to the workshop fee to enroll in the workshop for credit. This is due at the time of check-in.

THA 321: Stage Combat II
3 hours college credit (Prerequisite: Enrollment in Central Illinois Workshop, completion of THA 320, or instructor consent)
College credit for participation in Central Illinois Stage Combat Workshop at an advanced level. This three week workshop will teach students the art and skill of stage combat, reinforce acting skills, and based on instructor permission, will provide the opportunity to take a skills proficiency test with the Society of American Fight Directors. An administrative fee of $150 will be added to the workshop fee to enroll in the workshop for credit. This is due at the time of check-in.
If you are currently a student, check with your home institution’s financial aid office to see if you are eligible to apply any of your yearly allotment to the workshop. There are also alternative loan options to cover the entire cost of the workshop. Please contact Stage Combat Workshop Director, Marty Lynch, if you choose this option.
