Red Devils win third in a row behind Cashdollar shut out

Boxscore

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Red Devils baseball team completed a season series sweep of MacMurray College Wednesday, taking an 11-0 decision on the rad behind a shut out by Benji Cashdollar (Morton, Ill./HS).  Eureka has now won three games in a row for the first time since April of 2003.

Cashdollar fanned 10 batters over eight innings, scattering seven hits while walking two.  He was at his best when he really needed to be, holding MacMurray (2-8, 0-6 SLIAC) to 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.  Cashdollar has won his last two starts, evening his record at 2-2 by giving up just one run in 14 innings pitched.

Eureka (4-10, 4-2 SLIAC) got on the board in the second on a two-run single by Tyler Glaub (Metamora, Ill./HS).  He later scored on a single by Andy Hudec (Streamwood, Ill./HS) to give EC a 3-0 advantage.

Although the first two batters were retired, the Red Devils doubled their lead in the third to 6-0.  Eureka would go on to add two in the seventh and three in the eighth to reach double figures in runs for the third consecutive game.

Both sides recorded seven hits, though MacMurray committed six errors and left 10 on base compared to two errors and seven left on by EC.  Glaub and Hudec each recorded two hits, while Cashdollar, Mike Wagner (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita), Alex Rosenbeck (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo) and Nick Knoblauch (Metamora, Ill./HS) all crossed the plate safely twice.

Eureka will continue conference play Saturday, March 29 in a home doubleheader versus Maryville University scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
