Red Devils, Hudec remain on fire for another double digit win

Boxscores

EUREKA — Eureka College scored in all eight innings en route to a 12-2 victory in non-conference baseball action over Lincoln Christian College Wednesday in Eureka.  The Red Devils have now scored in 18 out of their last 20 times at bat over the last three games.  They are now 9-2 at home and have eight of their last nine games overall.

One day after recording a career-high three hits, Andy Hudec (Streamwood, Ill./HS) singled his first four times up, knocking in two runs and scoring twice to amplify the Eureka (15-16) attack.

Meanwhile, Pat Soraghan (Plainfield, Ill./HS) allowed two runs in the third, but otherwise frustrated a Lincoln Christian (1-16) offense that scored 26 runs in a doubleheader played against Eureka a week earlier.  Soraghan pitched a career-high eight innings for the complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts.  He held the Preachers to a .176 average (3-for-17) with runners on base to earn his first win at EC.

After Lincoln Christian had tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the inning, Eureka took control of the game with three runs in the bottom of the frame.  Nick Cox (Morton, Ill./Dee-Mack) had the only hit of the inning as he drilled an RBI single to right.  Two runs wound up scoring on the play and Cox made it to third after the throw to the infield rolled into the dugout.  Mike Johnson (Peoria, Ill./IVC) later drove in Cox on a ground out to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Maroon and Gold.

Eureka increased the margin to five in the fourth stanza as Hudec's third base hit of the game was followed by run scoring singles by Chris Reatherford (Peoria Heights, Ill./HS) and Brent Miller (Arcola, Ill./HS).  Hudec's fourth hit came in the bottom of the fifth as he plated two runs with a hit down the left field line to make the count 9-2.

The Red Devils added single tallies in the sixth and seventh before Troy Burd's (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff) RBI triple to left field in the eighth ended the game early by the run rule.  Eureka slugged out 12 hits in the game to double figures in runs scored for the third consecutive game.

Reatherford and Burd each recorded two hits.  Tim Cashdollar (Morton, Ill./HS), who was on base three times with a hit and two walks, was one of four Red Devils to score two runs.

Prior to the Red Devils' next game at 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 24, Eureka's four senior baseball players will be honored for Senior Day at Henry Sand Field.  Illinois College will be the opposition for a nine-inning non-conference match up.  The Blueboys took a doubleheader from EC in Jacksonville on March 24 by scores of 3-2 and 6-2.
