Koerner named Diamond Sports SLIAC Hitter of the Week

Red Devils claimed half of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's six Athlete of the Week Awards for sporing sports forthe week of March 16-22, including Kyle Koerner (LeRoy, Ill./HS) for baseball.

Koerner earned his first Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week Award after batting .545 with five doubles and seven runs scored in six games played last week.  After hitting two doubles with a run and RBI in Eureka's 9-6 win in game one, he set a career-high with four hits as the Red Devils (3-7-1, 3-2 SLIAC) fell 12-11 to MacMurray in the finale on March 17.  He singled and scored a run to begin a two-run rally in the last inning that tied the game at 11-11.

A 6-0 senior shortstop and captain, Koerner matched his career-high in hits on March 22 against Blackburn.  He reached base safely all six times at bat, going 4-for-4 with a walk and hit by pitch.  Although the Red Devils eventually lost the game 13-6 in 11 innings, he scored three runs, including the tying tally on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.  Koerner leads the EC attack in numerous categories thus far on the season, including batting average (.406), hits (13), doubles (5) and slugging percentage (.563).  He has struck out just three times in 32 at bats.
