Completed his first career 8K at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships at Weibring Golf Course on Sept. 17, finishing 29th in 29:09 ... Set a new personal-best 8K time in his final race of the season, placing 28th in a time of 27:42. 

High School: A three-year member of the Indians’ cross country squad ... Earned team MVP three times ... Served as team captain as a senior ... Qualified for the IHSA sectional on two occasions. 

Personal: The son of Lyle and Carol Ahrends, Zach was born Dec. 12, 1991 in Pontiac, Ill. ... Has three siblings, Les (40), Tabitha (39) and Dusty (21) ... Also a member of the Eureka swim and track & field squads .2. Majoring in business and accounting.
