Ackerman paces Red Devils at season opening meet

NORMAL, Ill. -- The Eureka College cross country runners took part in the Titan Opener hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in their first meet of the season Friday.

The women's race was contested over a two-mile course with sophomore Mary Ackerman (Morton, Ill./HS) registering the best finish for the Red Devils. She placed 17th out of 26 competing runners with a time of 14:58. Geanna Hiller (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) was close behind, taking 19th just 11 seconds back.

Jason McCleery (Rushville, Ill./Rushville-Industry) led the EC men's team, navigating the 5K course in 20:33.

The Red Devils will have the next two weeks off to prepare for the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships in Normal, Ill. on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 pm.
