Ahrends, Schreck Pace Red Devils in Rock Island
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Eureka College cross country runners Zach Ahrends (Graymont, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) and Amanda Schreck (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) each recorded the fastest times on record at Eureka in their respective races, leading the Red Devils at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
Ahrends completed the 8K race in a time of 27:36 for 151st place, six seconds faster than his previous career-best time set at the SLIAC Championships last season. Senior Nathan Pritzker (Morton, Ill.) was next for the Eureka men’s team, crossing the finish line in 32:30.
Schreck placed 224th with a 6K time of 27:02, topping her previous best of 27:18 set at Nichols Park in Jacksonville, Ill. on Oct. 16, 2010. Senior Meghan Campbell (Princeton, Ill./Olive Branch H.S.) finished behind Schreck with a time of 29:40 for 287th place.
Host Augustana won the team men’s title. Andrew McLain of Lewis won the individual crown with a time of 24:52. Olivet Nazarene claimed the women’s team championship, putting three of its runners in the top-10 and all five of its point-scorers in the top-25. Truman State’s Karen Grauel won the women’s 6K time of 21:53.
Eureka will resume competition on Friday, Oct. 7 at the Titan Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan at Maxwell Park in Normal, Ill. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.
