HILLSBORO, Ill. – Eureka College sophomores Zach Ahrends (Graymont, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) and Amanda Schreck (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) each recorded 22nd place finishes in their respective races, leading the cross country team at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, Saturday morning in Hillsboro, Ill.  The Eureka women placed sixth as a team, while the Eureka men finished seventh.

Ahrends completed the 8K course in 27:41 to pace the EC men’s squad.  Senior Nathan Pritzker (Morton, Ill.) placed 65th with an 8K time of 31:36, while Jon Helgeson delivered Eureka’s third-best time in 32:16 for 69th place.

Eureka earned 209 points as a team for a seventh-place team finish.  Principia put all five of its runners in the top-15 of the race, earning 33 points and team championship.    Spalding’s Abram Deng won the individual race in 25:17.

Schreck recorded Eureka’s top women’s performance for the 10th consecutive race since joining the Red Devils prior to the 2010 season.  Her 6K time of 26:21 was more than 40 seconds better than her previous career-best and was the second time this season she has recorded a new personal-best time.  Senior Meghan Campbell (Princeton, Ill./Olive Branch H.S.) placed 36th in 28:57, followed closely by junior Shelbi Rodgers (Batavia, Ill./Batavia H.S.) with a 6K time of 29:08 for 39th position.

Like the Principia men, Webster placed all five of its scorers in the top-15 of the race to win the conference title.  Principia’s Casey Powell claimed the individual title with a time of 23:08.
