Coach's Cornerweek Six
October 9, 2007
We had some players step up and our defense had a great game. Don't be deceived by the final score. One touchdown was due to a blocked punt in the end zone and two other touchdowns were because of turnovers (interception and failed punt fake) deep in our own territory. The defense was lead once again by Cody Troutman (Normal Community HS--Bloomington, IL) and Matt Knake (Freeburg HS--Freeburg, IL). Cody had 5 solo tackles and 1 interception. He also returned a blocked PAT for a 2 point score. Matt had 6 tackles and also had an interception of his own. That is back-to-back weeks with interceptions by both Troutman and Knake. J.P. Ramirez (Putnam County HS--Hennepin, IL) had 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. J.P. is really starting to get his legs underneath him and is giving opposing teams trouble. Another outstanding performance was from first year player Michael Moseley (Monterey HS--Lubbock, TX). Moseley had 12 tackles on the day from his linebacker position.
The Red Devil rushing attack struggled throughout the day. The bright spot for the offense came when Nick Lindsey (Heritage HS--Homer, IL) found freshman Justin Zoeller (Bloomington HS--Bloomington, IL) for our only TD strike of the day.
The push this week is to put both sides of the ball together for our game at Greenville on Saturday. This will be the second week in a roll that we are attending someone's homecoming. I truly believe that if we execute the way were are capable of we have a chance to spoil the party.
GO RED DEVILS! Coach Smiley
