Justin Dempsey chosen as IBFC
Offensive Player of the Week
November 8, 2007
MEQUON, Wis. — The Illini-Badger Football Conference has chosen Eureka College senior running back Justin Dempsey (Fairbury, Ill./Chenoa) as the Offensive Player of the Week for week 10 of the football season. Dempsey is the fifth different Red Devil to receive player of the week honors this season.
Dempsey had a career day Saturday in Eureka's 41-27 victory over MacMurray College. He diced the Highlander defense to the tune of 292 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries. Dempsey crossed the goal line twice in the first half on runs of 11 and one yard before capping off the Red Devils' (2-7, 2-5 IBFC) scoring with a 25 yard touchdown scamper as he eluded several defenders while just staying in-bounds in the final quarter.
Dempsey not only set single game career-highs and went over 1,000 yards for his EC career (1,021), but also posted IBFC season bests in carries, rushing yards and all-purpose yards. His total of 292 rushing yards ranks as the fourth most by a player in an NCAA Division III game this season. On the season, he is the fourth leading rusher in the conference with 693 yards despite missing one game due to injury. He is averaging 86.6 yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry.
Eureka's final game of the season will be a non-conference contest scheduled for Noon, Saturday, Nov. 10 at the University of Chicago.
