SLIAC cites Nick Lindsey for Player of the Week honors

EUREKA -- Eureka College junior Nick Lindsey (Homer, Ill./Heritage) has received Offensive Player of the Week honors from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for Week two of the football season.

Lindsey has been a thorn in the side of Concordia University Chicago in his EC career, and Saturday's match up with the Cougars was no exception. The third year quarterback was named Player of the Week when Eureka (1-1) was a member of the Illini-Badger Conference following a dominant performance versus Concordia last year, making this his second such award.

Despite playing in a relentless rain storm, Lindsey easily slipped through the Concordia defense for his first 100 yard rushing day, amassing an impressive total of 173 yards. He reached the end zone of two of his 15 carries, while running an EC offense that committed no turnovers.

He ran in from seven yards out in the second quarter, then increased the Red Devils' lead to 28-2 with a 31 yard scoring sprint in the third. Eureka went on to a 28-8 triumph. Lindsey also called his own number for a two-point conversion in the first half. He was responsible for nine plays of 10 yards or more. Three of those came through the air as Lindsey completed 6-of-14 passes for 78 yards. He has now thrown 43 passes in his career against Concordia without an interception.

The Red Devils have a bye this week. Their next game will be their first SLIAC league game as they visit Westminster College for a 1:00 pm kickoff on Saturday, September 27.
