Chris Wakid Named Academic All-District by CoSIDA
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior running back Chris Wakid (Danvers, Ill./Eureka H.S.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 Second Team, CoSIDA announced last week. Wakid’s selection is the first for the Eureka football program.
Owning a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average in biology, Wakid finished his Eureka career with 887 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He also pulled down 34 receptions during his three-year career. This season, Wakid carried the ball 121 times for 385 yards and two scores and ran for a season-high 83 yards against Crown in his final collegiate game on Nov. 7. Wakid was the recipient of WMBD-TV’s “Extra Effort Award” on Oct. 22, awarded weekly to an area athlete that excels above and beyond the playing field.
To be eligible for CoSIDA All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his or her current institution. Nominated student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and complete at least one full calendar year at his or her institution.
The Red Devils finished the 2009 season with a 4-6 overall record. The four victories were the most by a Eureka team since 1999.
