Nick Lindsey Named UMAC South Player of the Week
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior quarterback Nick Lindsey (Homer, Ill./Heritage H.S.) has been named the UMAC South Division Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday afternoon. It’s the third conference player of the week award in Lindsey’s career and first since he was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15, 2008.
Lindsey accounted for 348 of Eureka’s 407 total yards in Saturday’s 28-13 season-opening win over at Knox at McKinzie Field. He was 14-for-25 for 297 yards passing and three touchdowns. Two of his three touchdown throws came in the first eight minutes of the game, helping the Red Devils race to a 14-0 lead. He later added a one-yard touchdown run with 2:55 remaining in regulation to finish the day having a hand in each of Eureka’s four touchdowns. Lindsey finished the day with 51 rushing yards on 16 carries.
Lindsey previously won the SLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week award during week two as a junior last season. Prior to that, he received the same award from the Illini-Badger Conference as a sophomore in 2007, making Lindsey a recipient of a weekly award from three different conferences in three consecutive seasons.
Each of Lindsey’s previous awards came after efforts against Concordia, Eureka’s opponent this Saturday. The game in River Forest, Ill., the first road contest of the 2009 season for the Red Devils, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
