UMAC News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Eureka College football team placed six of its student-athletes on the Fall 2011 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday morning.  A total of 326 student-athletes representing 13 UMAC institutions in seven sports received recognition for an award.

Offensive lineman Kolton Hammond (Astoria, Ill./Astoria H.S.), tight end Alex Hess (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) and wide receiver Cody Myers (Ipava, Ill./V.I.T. H.S.) were the Eureka football seniors to qualify for the honor.  Hess earned the same award as a junior last season.

Defensive end Dan Bolsen (Lovington, Ill./Lovington H.S.) was the lone EC junior to earn the award.  He joins Hess as Eureka’s two repeat selections.  Running back Jacob Ferguson (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) and linebacker Donovan Lewis (Danville, Ill./Danville H.S.) represented Eureka’s freshman class as first-time recipients.

All student-athletes from UMAC-sponsored sports that receive at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester qualify for the award.  The Fall 2011 semester is the third consecutive autumn the league has eclipsed the 300 mark for individual recipients.  St. Scholastica, which competes in six of the UMAC’s seven fall sports, collected a league-best 69 selections.
