Martin Luther Downs Eureka at Dome Day, 52-13

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Eureka College sophomore kicker Travis Huber (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) made a pair of field goals and sophomore running back Ethan Lord (Dupo, Ill./Dupo H.S./Iowa Wesleyan) scored his first collegiate touchdown, but Martin Luther scored 38 unanswered points midway through the contest en route to a 52-13 win over the Red Devils, Saturday night at UMAC Dome Day in the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Knights took a 7-0 lead on their second possession of the night when quarterback Greg Holzhueter found brother Galen Holzhueter with an 87-yard touchdown pass.  Martin Luther followed with a defensive three-and-out before putting together a 15-play scoring drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Greg Holzhueter.

The Red Devils answered with consecutive field goals in the second quarter.  Huber is now a perfect 9-for-9 on field goal attempts in his collegiate career.  He connected on attempts of 39 and 38 yards on Saturday.  The Knights were able to add a field goal of their own with just two seconds left before halftime and took a 17-6 lead into intermission.

The Martin Luther field goal ignited a 38-point scoring spree by the Knights, who eventually extended their lead to 52-6 after Tyler Dorn ran for a 7-yard touchdown with 5:58 left in the contest.

Lord gave the Eureka offense its first touchdown drive of the game when his 3-yard scamper capped an 11-play drive with 2:01 left in the game.  Freshman quarterback Dylan Westlake (Astoria, Ill./South Fulton H.S.) recorded his first career completion, going 3-for-6 for 36 yards and a long completion of 18 yards to junior Alex Hess (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) when facing fourth down early on the drive.

Eureka will play its final road game of the 2010 season this Saturday, traveling to Greenville for a noon kickoff.
