Red Devils to Visit UMAC Champion Greenville
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College football team will play its final road game of the 2010 season on Saturday, traveling south to square off against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Greenville at noon at Francis Field in Greenville, Ill. The Panthers are 5-0 in conference play and have already clinched the regular season UMAC title.
Greenville (6-3, 5-0 UMAC) opened the season with three losses in its first four games against non-conference competition before rattling off five straight UMAC wins. The Panthers’ offense ranks fifth overall among UMAC teams, but its ground game ranks first in the UMAC and 11th nationally with 280.8 yards per game. Senior running back Anthony Ambers, who shared the UMAC South Division Offensive Player of the Year award last season, ranks 10th in Division III with 132.0 rushing yards per game and has found the end zone 14 times. The Greenville defense has also been solid this season, allowing a league-low 21.0 points per game.
The Red Devils (1-7, 1-4 UMAC) are looking for their first road victory of the season after dropping each of their first five games away from McKinzie Field this season. Martin Luther handed Eureka a 52-13 defeat at the 11th annual UMAC Dome Day last Saturday night in the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Red Devils and Panthers have met on the football field every season since Greenville began its football program in 1987. The Panthers have won seven straight in the all-time series against Eureka and own a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series. Greenville claimed a 20-13 win over the Red Devils last season in Eureka.
Online video coverage of Saturday’s game will be available by visiting www.meridix.com and searching “Greenville College”, or by visiting the links on the football page at www.greenville.edu/athletics. An audio-only broadcast will be available locally on Greenville’s student radio station, WGRN-FM 89.5, and online at www.wgrn.net.
The Eureka football team is the lone fall sport on campus still in season. The Red Devils will close the 2010 season with their annual Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 13 against UMAC foe MacMurray at noon at McKinzie Field.
