Schmidgall Collects Additional All-America Accolades

Wes Schmidgall

BSN All-America Team

LEESBURG, Va. – Eureka College senior wide receiver Wes Schmidgall (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S./Culver-Stockton) has been named to the Beyond Sports College Network DIII All-America Second Team, according to an announcement on Thursday afternoon.  Schmidgall also received All-America honors from D3ProDay.com last month.

Schmidgall made 73 receptions for 1,247 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2011 to earn All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference First Team honors.  His average of 124.7 receiving yards per game led the 10-team conference and ranked fourth among all Division III players, while his 7.3 catches per game ranked second in the UMAC and 19th nationally.  He finished the campaign tied for first in the UMAC with 16 receiving touchdowns and ranked tied for 21st nationally with 9.6 points scored per game.  His 273-yard receiving performance against Greenville on Oct. 22 at McKinzie Field was the best effort by a Division III receiver in 2011 and narrowly missed Eureka’s single-game record of 289 yards set by current head coach Kurt Barth.

Including his freshman season totals at NAIA-affiliated Culver-Stockton in 2008, Schmidgall made 196 catches for 3,631 yards and 43 touchdowns in 39 career games.  He was a three-time All-UMAC First Team choice (2009-11) and earned two UMAC Offensive Player of the Week awards.

The BSN All-America Teams are made up of the top players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels. The honorees were chosen based on conference awards, individual stats, team stats, and highlight videos.  Schmidgall, who was one of five UMAC players to earn All-America status from BSN, was selected as a finalist for the award last month.

Eureka finished the 2011 season with a 4-6 overall record and a 4-5 UMAC record to finish sixth in the 10-team league.
