Wisconsin-Stout Blanks Eureka, 63-0
MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Eureka College football team concluded the non-conference portion of its 2010 schedule on Saturday afternoon, falling 63-0 to Wisconsin-Stout at Don and Nona Williams Stadium in Menomonie, Wis.
The Blue Devils (2-1) received the opening kickoff and needed only four plays from scrimmage for Craig Warminski to strike on an 8-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead. The hosts went on to score on each of their five possessions in the first quarter and led 35-0 after 15 minutes of play.
Daniel Vyvyan ran for a game-high 110 yards and was one of five Blue Devils to run for a touchdown. Patrick Mengelkoch made two catches for 64 yards and hauled in Wisconsin-Stout’s lone passing touchdown of the day in the first quarter.
Eureka (0-3) junior wideout Wes Schmidgall (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S./Culver-Stockton) led the offense with seven catches for 47 yards. Senior Dillon Reed (Illiopolis, Ill./Sangamon Valley H.S.) had two receptions for 28 yards, including a 24-yard reception from junior quarterback Jordan Krone (Minonk, Ill./Fieldcrest H.S./Greenville) in the first quarter, Eureka’s longest play from scrimmage for the game. Krone and sophomore Sam Durley (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S.) combined to complete 10 passes for 85 yards.
Eureka will begin the seven-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference schedule when it welcomes Minnesota-Morris for the annual homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. The contest will mark the first all-time meeting between the Red Devils and Cougars.
