Punjabi leads Red Devils at IWU Invitational
Narish Punjabi (Washington, Ill./HS) continued his perfect run of sub-80 rounds in leading the Eureka golf team at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational last weekend. The junior transfer has shot all seven of his rounds at Eureka below 80, including both circuits at Ironwood Golf Course. Punjabi carded a 77 in the opening round and a 79 in the second round to finish at 12-over par in a tie for 29th place out of 123 golfers.
Two other Red Devils recorded rounds in the 70s. Matt Morse (Magnolia, Ill./Fieldcrest) opened with a 79 before closing with an 80 to finish as the second ranked golfer for Eureka in a tie for 52nd overall. Brady Wildenradt (Delavan, Ill./HS) improved on his first round by seven shots with a 79 on the second day.
Dan Cameron (Byron, Ill./HS) contributed the final score toward the team total both days, firing rounds of 85 and 84. The Red Devils finished 18th out of 24 squads. They wound up just two strokes behind 16th place Webster University, which was the second highest ranking member of the SLIAC.
Eureka will tee it up next at the John McNaughton Invitational hosted by Illinois College Monday, April 13. The event was originally slated to be played April 6, but was pushed back due to inclement weather.
