Red Devils card lowest round of season, 5th place at IC Invite

Leaderboard

The Eureka College men's golf team took fifth place out of nine squads at the John McNaughton Invitational hosted by Illinois College at Jacksonville Country Club.  The Red Devils fought through cold, drizzly conditions to shoot a team score of 312, leaving them just three strokes out of third place.

Narish Punjabi (Washington, Ill./HS) fired a 34 on the opening nine holes and came in with a final total of 73 to take fourth place out of the 52 competing golfers.  He was only three shots off medalist honors, which were won by Sean Liston of Millkin with a 2-under-par 70.

T.J. Schopp (LeRoy, Ill./HS) bagged his lowest round of the season with an 81, helping Eureka beat out teams from Illinois College, McKendree, Westminster and MacMurray.  Other players contributing scores to the EC team cause were Matt Morse (Magnolia, Ill./Fieldcrest), who had the lowest back-nine on the team with a 38 during his round of 78, and Brady Wildenradt (Delavan, Ill./HS), who fired an 80.  Morse finished in a tie 14th place overall, with Wildenradt taking 24th.

Millikin University won the tournament by seven shots with a team score of 295.  The Red Devils placed second out of four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams entered in the event.  They were only three swings off the pace of Fontbonne University, which had the lowest score for SLIAC teams.
