Narish Punjabi earns SLIAC Golfer of the Week accolades

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has chosen Narish Punjabi (Washington, Ill./HS) of Eureka College as its SLIAC Golfer of the Week for the week of April 13-19.  He is the first EC golfer to be honored with the league's weekly award since Eureka joined the SLIAC prior to the 2007 season.  Maryville University, which will move to the NCAA Division II level next season, had won the previous five Golfer of the Week awards this year.

Punjabi carded Eureka's lowest score as the Red Devils won the University of St. Francis Invitational on April 14 by one stroke with a season-low team score of 307.  The junior transfer from ICC bagged a 1-over-par 72 (37-35) at Inwood Golf Course to finish just two shots off medalist honors. It was his ninth consecutive sub-80 round to begin his EC career and tied for his career-best.  It was his fifth top 10 finish in six tournaments as a Red Devil.

One day earlier, Punjabi shot a 73 (34-39) despite tough playing conditions at the John McNaughton Memorial hosted by Illinois College.  He wound up only three shots off the top of the leaderboard, again firing a round of 1-over.  He was the top finisher from the four SLIAC squads playing in the event, taking fourth place overall out of a total of 52 golfers.  His scoring average for the year is 75.4.
