Morse battles deep field, weather to solid finish at Millikin Tourney
DECATUR, Ill. — Eureka registered a 19th place finish out of 23 golf teams at the weather plagued Millikin University Big Blue Classic last weekend. Three squads withdrew completely as cold and wet conditions forced the second round to be shortened to nine holes.
The Red Devils gained three spots in the team standings on the second day led by 40s shot by Matt Morse (Magnolia, Ill./Fieldcrest) and Dan Cameron (Byron, Ill./HS). Morse, who led Eureka with an opening round 89, went from 51st to a tie for 39th with a 27-hole total of 129 (21-over-par). Cameron gained 19 spots for a 75th place finish and 137 total (97-40).
Eureka has next week off before playing in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship April 21-22 at Governors Run Golf Club in Carlyle, Ill. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the second day. The team with the lowest score will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
