Eureka Alum Cameron Qualifies For Illinois State Amateur

81st Annual Illinois State Amateur Championship Website

Cameron's Qualifying Scorecard

EUREKA, Ill. – Former Eureka College golfer and 2009 graduate Dan Cameron has qualified for the 81st annual Illinois State Amateur Championship, scheduled for Aug. 9-11 at the Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn, Ill.  Cameron fired a two-over par 74 at PrairieView Golf Club in Byron, Ill. on July 7 to qualify for the tournament.

Cameron’s 74 at PrairieView was good enough for a sixth-place tie and was just three shots off the lead.  He and nine other qualifiers from the PrairieView qualifier will participate with roughly 120 other golfers at the 81st Illinois State Amateur Championship beginning Aug. 9.  The championship is scheduled to be a 72-hole stroke play.  All players will play two days with the low 30 and ties and anyone within 10 strokes of the lead advancing to the final 36-holes.

The annual event is governed by the Chicago District Golf Association.  The championship is open to any amateur who qualified at any of the 11 qualifying tournaments between July 5-25 throughout the state.  Qualifiers must also be a current resident of Illinois with a current handicap index of 7.4 or lower.  Cameron previously qualified for the Illinois State Amateur Championship in 2007.

The Byron, Ill. native was a standout golfer for the Red Devils from 2006 through 2009.  He finished second at the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Tournament as a freshman in 2006, earning the league’s Newcomer of the Year award.  He also received All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades as a sophomore in 2007 and again as a senior in 2009.  He earned a B.S. in Physical Education from Eureka College in 2009.

In addition to his time as a student-athlete at Eureka, Cameron served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the women’s basketball team during the 2007-08 season and as an assistant coach for the Eureka men’s basketball team during the 2010-11 season.
