Zasada earns SLIAC Player of the Week honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has named Eureka College sophomore Michael Zasada (McHenry, Ill./HS) as Player of The Week for the week of Jan. 28 - Feb. 3.
A 6-5 forward, Zasada averaged a double-double over two games played last week with 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He led the Red Devils (6-12, 6-4 SLIAC) to a crucial victory over Maryville University Saturday with a career-high 20 points to go with 12 boards and seven steals. He saved four points for overtime as EC prevailed 71-70 in the extra session. With the win, Eureka moved into a fourth place tie in the league standings with Maryville.
Zasada added nine points and nine rebounds in a loss to Lincoln Christian earlier in the week. He has led Eureka in rebounds in the last eight games, and 12 times overall this season. In conference play, Zasada ranks third in three categories: rebounds (9.7 rpg), steals (2.5 spg) and blocked shots (1.6 bpg). He is also seventh in field goal percentage (.511) and 10th in three-point percentage (.393).
"Michael deserves this award for the consistency he has shown this season," said EC Head Coach Chip Wilde. "He has been solid for us all year."
The Red Devils next travel to SLIAC rival Blackburn College for a 8:00 pm tip-off Wednesday, February 6.
