Darnall picks up back-to-back SLIAC weekly awards
December 4, 2007
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — For the second time in as many weeks, Mark Darnall (Lake Mills, Wis./HS) has been honored as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The 6-3 junior guard led the Red Devils in scoring for the second consecutive game with 17 points in a 57-49 loss to Dominican University. He also added six rebounds, which was just one away from his career-high. Darnall played 39 minutes, sinking a trio of three-pointers and 7-out-of-20 field goal attempts overall.
"I give Mark a lot of credit coming off an injury from soccer and playing catch up the first couple of weeks," said Eureka Head Coach Chip Wilde. "He has shown some really good initiative and great leadership."
The second leading returning scorer from last season, Darnall has paced Eureka with a 11.8 points-per-game average this year. He is the second Red Devil to take home back-to-back Player of the Week honors since Eureka joined the SLIAC in 2006.
Eureka opens conference play Wednesday, December 5 at home versus Blackburn College. The women's game is scheduled for 6:00 pm with the men's contest to follow at 8:00 pm.
