Darnall nets SLIAC Player of the Week accolades
November 26, 2007
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Eureka College junior Mark Darnall (Lake Mills, Wis./HS) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 19-25.
Battling back from a preseason injury while playing on the Red Devils' soccer team, Darnall was deployed as a starter for the first time in Saturday's match up with No. 18 Elmhurst College. He responded with his best game to date, recording 19 points, three rebounds and two assists. He was a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
The 6-3 guard scored Eureka's first 12 points of the second half, helping the Red Devils (0-4) fend off their undefeated opponents for the first 32 minutes of the game. Elmhurst gained its first lead with 7:50 remaining and went on to win 64-51.
Darnall led all players in the game in scoring, saving 17 of his 19 markers for the second half. He also played well off the bench in Eureka's first game of the week as he tallied eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in a loss to North Park. For the season, he is leading the team in field goal percentage (48.3) and is second with an 81.8 free throw percentage and 10.5 points per game average.
The Red Devils' next game will be their home opener set for 7:00 pm Wednesday, Nov. 28 versus Dominican University.
