Jordan Kindred named SLIAC player of the week
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has named Eureka's Jordan Kindred its Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 12-18. He is the first freshman the league has chosen for the award in over two years and the second Red Devil to earn the honor this season.
A 6-0 point guard from Chrisman, Ill. (Chrisman HS), Kindred has started all 14 games for Eureka College (5-9, 3-3 SLIAC) this season. He had his best game Saturday, helping the Red Devils to a key 80-76 win on the road against defending SLIAC champion Webster University in their only contest of the week. It was Eureka's first win over the Gorloks in fives games as a member of the SLIAC. Kindred connected on 8-of-11 field goal attempts and 4-for-7 from three-point territory to tie for game-high honors with 20 points. The eight made field goals, four three-pointers and 20 points are all career-highs. He also had three assists and two steals.
"Jordan came in to our program and competed hard right away as a freshman," said Eureka head coach Chip Wilde. "I'm glad to see his hard work and competitiveness earn him the SLIAC Player of the Week. He came up big for us in a road win versus Webster."
Kindred is the first EC freshman to receive a men's basketball player of the week award since the 2000-01 season. For the season, he is averaging 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He leads all SLIAC freshman is assists and ranks fourth among rookies in points. He has made 15 treys, helping Eureka to a top 25 ranking in the country in three-pointers per game.
The Red Devils, who are on their first three-game winning streak since February 23, 2007, next play at MacMurray College Wednesday, January 21 at 8:00 pm.
