Men’s Basketball Trio Earns Academic Honor

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior men’s basketball players Mark Darnall (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills H.S.), Seth McCoy (Piper City, Ill./Tri-Point H.S.) and Clint Rabbe (El Paso, Ill./El Paso H.S.) were each named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, the NABC announced earlier this month.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that student-athletes possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to qualify for the academic honor, players must be a junior or senior on the varsity roster and own at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must have spent at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA institution.

A sport management major, Darnall is a two-time member of the Honors Court after being recognized as a junior in 2007-08. The four-year guard started all 25 games during his senior campaign in 2008-09, averaging 8.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures seven times last season, highlighted by a 15-point, six-rebound game in Eureka’s 64-63 win against Earlham early in the season.

McCoy, majoring in physical education, appeared in 19 games last season, making one start. He scored a season-best six points in Eureka’s 83-71 win at MacMurray last January. He averaged 5.3 minutes per game in each of his appearances and finished his four-year EC career with 62 games played.

Rabbe rounds out the trio of Red Devils on the Honors Court. The 6-foot-3 english major played in 19 games off the bench during his final season at Eureka, averaging 4.2 points per game. Rabbe scored in doubles figures twice during the 2008-09 season, including a 12-point output in a 78-69 win at Blackburn in January.

“This a great accomplishment for these three student-athletes,” head coach Chip Wilde said. “Mark, Clint and Seth made great contributions on the floor for us and gained national recognition for their work in the classroom. We are very proud to have our men’s basketball program, our athletics department and Eureka College being represented by these young men.”
