Bell, Byard Earn First SLIAC Weekly Awards
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College basketball players Kameron Bell (Clinton, Ill./Clinton H.S./Carl Sandburg) and Lisa Byard (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) have each been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league late Monday night.
Bell poured in a career-high 44 points and played a key role in Eureka’s come-from-behind 91-90 win at Rockford last Wednesday. The senior guard scored 25 of Eureka’s 57 points after halftime, helping the Red Devils erase a 15-point deficit midway through the second half. Three nights later, Bell scored 14 points at Eastern Illinois. He finished the two-game swing a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
On the women’s side, Byard recorded back-to-back doubles-doubles in Eureka’s season-opening split in Wisconsin. She scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in a 77-40 win at Mount Mary on Friday, Eureka’s first season-opening victory since the 2003-04 season. The sophomore forward followed that effort with a 24-point, 13-rebound performance against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday night. In the game against the Raiders, Byard went 16-for-19 from the free throw line and added a steal and a block.
Both Eureka squads will return to action Wednesday night at Monmouth. The women will play at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
