Michael Zasada Named SLIAC Player of the Week
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College senior forward Michael Zasada (McHenry, Ill./McHenry H.S.) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office Monday. The weekly award is Zasada’s second of the season from the SLIAC and third of his career.
Zasada scored 13 points, gathered a season-high 16 rebounds and matched a career-high with six assists in an 80-64 non-conference victory over Lincoln Christian on Wednesday. Three days later in his final game at the Reagan Center, Zasada scored 26 points and snagged 12 boards in Eureka’s 82-56 throttling of league-leader Westminster. For the week, Zasada shot 56.0 percent from the field (14-for-25) and 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from the free throw line.
Saturday’s victory over Westminster helped Eureka (16-8, 10-5 SLIAC) clinch its first SLIAC Tournament berth since 2006-07, Eureka’s first year in the nine-team conference. The Red Devils are locked into Thursday’s 6 p.m. semifinal game against MacMurray and will finish with the #2 seed or #3 seed depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s final round of regular season conference games. Greenville and Webster are still vying for the fourth and final spot in the tournament and the right to play top-seeded Westminster at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Eureka will travel to Greenville on Tuesday to close the regular season at 8 p.m.
