Box Score

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Eureka College senior guard Kameron Bell (Clinton, Ill./Clinton H.S./Carl Sandburg) turned in another solid performance with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds, but Monmouth overcame a four-point halftime deficit and ended the game on a 15-6 run to beat the visiting Red Devils, 73-64, Wednesday night in Monmouth, Ill.

After Bell converted a three-point play to force a 58-58 tie with 4:11 remaining in the game, Monmouth’s Eric Grant drilled a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to give the Fighting Scots a 61-58 advantage.  The basket triggered a 15-6 run by the hosts to end the game, dropping the Red Devils to 1-2 on the season.  Monmouth scored its final 12 points from the free throw line, missing only two of 14 attempts in the final 2-minutes, 41-seconds.  A basket from Bell with 25 seconds left trimmed Eureka’s deficit to six with 25 seconds remaining, but the Red Devils would not get any closer.

Eureka played a solid first half , shooting 60 percent from the field (15-for-25) and leading by as many as six points before taking a 37-33 lead into halftime.  Bell made all three of three-point field goals during the first 20 minutes.

Bell led the Red Devils in scoring for the second time this season with 20 points.  Sophomore guard Andy Leppard (Crescent City, Ill./Crescent-Iroquois H.S.) played the full 40 minutes and chipped in with 18 points, while senior forward Michael Zasada (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) added 15 for the Red Devils and collected a game-high nine rebounds.  Corey Gruber scored 16 points to lead the Fighting Scots.

Eureka will open the home portion of its 2009-10 schedule this Saturday against Concordia (Ill.) at 3 p.m. at the Reagan Center.
