Blackburn Runs Past Eureka, 89-63

Box Score

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – Blackburn spoiled a career-high 17 points from Eureka College senior guard Craig Black (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan H.S.) in the Beavers' 89-63 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon in Carlinville, Ill.

Eureka shot 53 percent (16-for-30) in the first half, but still trailed 40-37 at intermission.  The momentum and accurate shooting swung to the Beavers in the second half, as Blackburn shot 55 percent (16-for-29) in the final 20 minutes to pull away.  The Red Devils shot just 29 percent (8-for-28) in the second half.

Black shot 6-for-9 from the field and went 4-for-6 from the line.  Senior classmate Josh Wagner (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S./Carl Sandburg) added 11 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Austin Nicholas (Brownsburg, Ind./Manitou Springs H.S./Lamar) came of the bench for 10 points.

Blackburn’s Grant Chandler scored 15 points in 20 minutes off the bench to lead a group of five Beavers to score in double-figures.  Brandon Adams scored 10 points and collected 11 rebounds for the only double-double of the game.  The Beavers only turned the ball over eight times and enjoyed a slim 36-34 advantage in rebounding.

The Red Devils will return to the Reagan Center this Wednesday, kicking off a four-game SLIAC home stand with an 8 p.m. tip-off against Spalding.
