Brown, Fritsch Collect Weekly SLIAC Accolades
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Eureka College senior forward Khassandrae Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S./Kankakee) and junior forward Dustin Fritsch (Sterling, Ill./Sterling H.S./Sauk Valley) have each received St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, according to an announcement from the conference Monday night. Both players played key roles in non-conference wins at the Reagan Center last week.
Brown scored a game-high 19 points and tied a personal career-best with 17 rebounds in Eureka’s 76-34 non-conference win over Silver Lake on Saturday at the Reagan Center. Brown was a force inside for the Red Devils, going 7-for-12 from the field. Nine of her 17 rebounds were at the offensive end of the floor. Brown has been a force for the Red Devils through the first seven games of the season, leading the conference with 10.9 rebounds per contest. She also ranks second among SLIAC players in scoring with 17.1 points per game.
Fritsch had two double-doubles for the Red Devils last week, averaging 23.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in Eureka’s pair of non-conference contests. He shot 61 percent from the field for the week, including a 9-for-13 performance at Rose-Hulman on Thursday. Through nine games, Fritsch leads the nine-team SLIAC with 18.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He also ranks fourth in the league with 16 steals and fifth with a .516 field goal percentage. The SLIAC Player of the Week award is the second of the season for Fritsch after previously earning the award on Nov. 21, 2011.
Following the Christmas holiday, both Eureka basketball squads will return to competition on Tuesday, Dec. 27. The women’s team will fly to Las Vegas, Nev. for a two-game trip to the D3Hoops.com Classic at South Point Hotel & Casino. The Red Devils will open the event with a 3 p.m. start against Concordia (Wis.) on Dec. 27. The Eureka men’s team will visit Division I Western Illinois on Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.
