Eureka Drops Opener at Knox, 75-60

Box Score

GALESBURG, Ill. – Eureka College junior point guard Jordan Kindred (Chrisman, Ill./Chrisman H.S.) scored a game-high 20 points and sophomore center Mark Lessen (Delavan, Ill./Delavan H.S.) had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, but three Knox players scored in double-figures to lead the Prairie Fire past the Red Devils, 75-60, on opening night in Galesburg, Ill.

Knox took its first lead of the game when Ben Wetherbee knocked down a three-pointer for a 5-2 lead with 16:41 left in the first half and the hosts would never trail again.

Eureka slowly chipped away at its halftime deficit, but the Red Devils couldn’t get any closer than 15 points when Kindred made a pair of foul shots with 12 seconds left to set the final score at 75-60.

Eureka senior forward Josh Wagner (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S./Carl Sandburg) scored a career-high 14 points in his first career start to become the third Red Devil to score in double-figures.  Eureka struggled beyond the three-point line, shooting just 14.3 percent on 2-for-14 shooting.  The Red Devils held a 36-30 advantage on the glass.

The Red Devils will open the home portion of their schedule this Saturday, hosting Rockford in a non-conference tilt at the Reagan Center at 3 p.m.

NOTES: Eureka posted a 76-70 win in a junior varsity game played in the early evening ... Eureka freshman guard Grant Pelletier (Loami, Ill./New Berlin H.S.) connected on nine three-point baskets and scored a game-high 31 points in the win.
