Eureka Rally Stopped at Greenville, 89-75
GREENVILLE, Ill. -- Greenville saw its 17-point halftime lead over Eureka College dwindle to as little as three points late in the second half of Thursday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, but the Panthers held on to post an 89-75 win over the Red Devils at H.J. Long Gymnasium in Greenville, Ill.
Four Eureka starters scored in double-figures. Sophomore center Mark Lessen (Delavan, Ill./Delavan H.S.) scored a career-high 20 points and snagged 10 rebounds to pace the Red Devils.
Senior guard Craig Black (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan H.S.) had a career-high 16 points, while junior guard Austin Nicholas (Brownsburg, Ind./Manitou Springs H.S./Lamar) scored in double-figures for the third straight game with 11 points. Senior guard Cody Myers (Ipava, Ill./V.I.T. H.S.) dished out a career-high six assists in 25 minutes off the bench.
The win improves Greenville to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Eureka dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in the SLIAC. The Red Devils will end a 40-day stretch away from the Reagan Center when they return home to host SLIAC foe Westminster this Saturday at 3 p.m.
