Josh Wagner Named All-SLIAC Honorable Mention

SLIAC Announcement

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College leading rebounder senior Josh Wagner (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S./Carl Sandburg) has been selected All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention, SLIAC Commissioner Will Wolper announced during the league tournament Friday night in St. Louis, Mo.  Wagner also led the league with an 8.1 rebounding average.

Wagner, who appeared in 29 games in two seasons prior to 2010-11, proved to be a solid presence in the Eureka frontcourt this season.  He started 22 of the 24 games he appeared in, averaging 10.6 points and a league-best 8.1 boards.  He led the Red Devils in scoring five different times during the campaign, including a career-high 25-point performance in the Red Devils’ non-conference victory over Lincoln Christian on Jan. 20.  He also set a new career-best with 19 rebounds at Robert Morris-Springfield on Dec. 15, the best rebounding total by a Eureka player in nearly four years.

Spalding junior DeWhon McAfee was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to a share of the regular season championship with a 13-3 record.  McAfee’s head coach, Kevin Gray, was named SLIAC Coach of the Year and MacMurray’s Dylan Burton was chosen as the Newcomer of the Year.  Greenville received the Sportsmanship Award for the fourth consecutive season.

Eureka finished the season with a 4-21 overall record and a 2-12 SLIAC mark.
