Men's Basketball -- Feb. 9, 2011

Lincoln Christian Shoots Down Red Devils, 78-54

Box Score

LINCOLN, Ill. – Lincoln Christian sophomore guard Brady Cremeens came off the bench to knock down six 3-point baskets and score a game-high 27 points, leading the Red Lions to a 78-54 non-conference win over the Eureka College men’s basketball team, Wednesday night at the Laughlin Center in Lincoln, Ill.

The Red Lions constructed a double-digit lead midway through the first half, but an 8-0 Eureka surge capped by the first career 3-point basket by senior Josh Wagner (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson H.S./Carl Sandburg) brought the Red Devils within five (29-24) with 4:35 left before halftime.  The hosts pushed the lead back to 10 points, 38-28, at intermission.

The Red Devils cut their deficit down to eight points on two different occasions in the second half, but LCU’s hot shooting allowed the hosts to slowly pull away to earn a season series split with the Red Devils.

Cremeens made six of seven attempts from beyond the arc, pacing an LCU attack that went 12-for-24 from 3-point range for the night.  The Red Lions’ 12 3-point baskets were the most in a single contest by a Eureka opponent since Illinois-Springfield made 13 3-pointers on Dec. 15, 2010.  Chris Lawson knocked down four triples of his own in an 18-point showing.

Wagner paced the Red Devils with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Mark Lessen (Delavan, Ill./Delavan H.S.) added 14 points in the loss for Eureka.

The Red Devils will return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Saturday at Principia in Elsah, Ill.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
