Red Devils Fall at D-II Minnesota State
MANKATO, Minn. – Eureka College junior guards Andy Leppard (Crescent City, Ill./Crescent-Iroquois H.S.) and Jordan Kindred (Chrisman, Ill./Chrisman H.S.) scored 14 points apiece to pace the Red Devils, but NCAA Division II opponent Minnesota State walked away with a 120-44 victory over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
Nine players scored in double-figures for the Mavericks, who improved to 4-0 on the season with the win. Jimmy Whitehead led all scorers with 17 points, while Connor O’Brien had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Eureka (0-4) sophomore guard Jake Kuenzl (Fairview, Ill./Spoon River Valley H.S.) had a career-high three assists in 11 minutes off the bench for the Red Devils. Freshmen Nolan Gibson (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) and Ryan Olson (Streator, Ill./Streator H.S.) each scored their first career points during the contest. Fourth-year head coach Chip Wilde used 17 players overall and 11 Red Devils played at least 10 minutes.
Eureka will open the 16-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule this Tuesday night at the Reagan Center against Principia. Tip-off against the Panthers is scheduled for 8 p.m.
