Lake Forest Downs Eureka, 11-0
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Facing a quick turnaround after its season-opening match at Traister Field on Saturday, the Eureka College men’s soccer team dropped an 11-0 non-conference decision to Lake Forest, Sunday afternoon.
Mahir Mameledzija hit the back of the net twice in the first 7:03 of the afternoon to get the ball rolling for the Foresters. The hosts also received a pair of strikes in the first half from Steven Johnson before carrying a 5-0 cushion into intermission.
The Red Devils kept LFC off the board for more than 15 minutes to begin the second half, but a 62nd minute tally from Hugh Watanabe sparked another offensive blitz from the Foresters. Sakhile Nkambule and Nicholas Kliminski each scored twice in the final 20 minutes.
Five different players attempted a shot for the Red Devils, including shots on goal from Erik Harm (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur H.S.), Tyler Hess (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead/Concordia) and David Flores (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport H.S.). Junior goalkeeper Tyler Mumm (Monticello, Ill./Monticello H.S.) made 10 saves in the full 90 minutes.
Eureka will return to match competition Saturday at NAIA-affiliated Hannibal-LaGrange at 2 p.m. in Hannibal, Mo.
