Cardinals fly past Red Devils in 2008 season Opener

EUREKA — Eureka College fell 8-0 to the North Central College Cardinals in the opener of the second season of Red Devils men's soccer Friday evening.
EC goalkeeper Justin Horrer (Hopedale, Ill./Olympia) made 13 saves on the day, including nine in the second half of play. Horrer recorded saves on two of the Cardinals' first nine shots before North Central took a 1-0 lead just over 15 minutes into the game. The Eureka defense held strong until the final seven minutes of the half when North Central scored twice to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
Eight different Cardinals would eventually find the back of the net, while Mike McEvoy picked up the shutout in goal. Junior transfer Brian O'Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) recorded two shots for the Red Devils.
Eureka next travels to Knox College Monday, Sept. 1 for a 4:00 pm kickoff. The EC women's soccer team begins play Saturday, Aug. 30 at home versus Franklin College at 2:00 pm, then plays at Knox on Monday at 2:00 pm.
