Unbeaten Elmhurst sinks Eureka on soggy pitch
Boxscore
ELMHURST, Ill. — The Eureka men's soccer team was defeated 12-0 by Elmhurst College, the fourth ranked team in the Central region in the rain Saturday.
The Red Devils (1-5) could not slow the undefeated Bluejays (6-0) in the opening half as the hosts launched 18 shots on goal en route to an 8-0 advantage.
Eureka recorded three shots on goal after halftime, with two coming off the foot of Brian O'Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame). David Doubet (Pekin, Ill./HS) was credited with the other.
Joe Altal netted three goals in the second half to cap the Elmhurst attack.
The Red Devils will take on another unbeaten team as they begin conference play at home Tuesday, Sept. 16. The surprising Greenville Panthers, off to a 4-0-1 start and ranked 10th in the region, will provide the opposition for a 5:00 pm kickoff. The women's game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
