Lake Co. Eagles extinguish Red Devils

Boxscore

The Red Devils dropped their non-conference men's soccer match to Robert Morris College-Lake County Saturday by the final count of 3-0. The Eureka College attack was subdued by an Eagles defense that limited EC to 10 shots.

There was just one goal scored over the first 76 minutes of the contest. Daniel Mendez found the net unassisted with 12 minutes to play in the first half. The Red Devils (1-9) put more shots on goal than their opponents (4-3) and gained a 3-1 edge in corners despite the 1-0 deficit at the break.

Robert Morris (6-4-2) nearly doubled its shot total after halftime, firing 11 in the direction of the EC goal. Finally, the Eagles added to their lead in the 77th minute, then again nine minutes later to put the game out of reach at 3-0 with 4:27 remaining.

Brian O'Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) recorded two of the Red Devils' five shots on goal on the day. Others with a shot on goal for EC were David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora,), Richie Gregory (Champaign, Ill./Judah Christian) and Daniel Madison (Tampa, Fla./Plainfield South).

Eureka will return to SLIAC play in the next scheduled game on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 pm. MacMurray College will provide the opposing side giving Eureka a chance to avenge a pair of close defeats, 5-3 and 2-1, last season against the Highlanders.
