Boxscore

A slow start cost the Eureka men's soccer team a chance to stay within range of Wester University Saturday as the Gorloks put three goals in the net in the first 18:30 en route to a 6-0 victory.

Webster (4-5-3, 3-1-1 SLIAC) moved ahead 4-0 in the 39th minute, enjoying a 13-2 shots advantage in the opening half. Andy Rudroff scored just 3:50 into the game, then had teammates pad the Gorloks' lead in the 10th and 19th minutes.

The Red Devils (3-12, 1-4 SLIAC) trimmed their shots deficit to 13-7 in the second half, allowing just two Kevin Fann markers 34 seconds apart in the 64th minute during the second half.

Brian O'Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) put Eureka's only shot on goal in the second half. Five other Red Devils fired shots, led by two each from David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora), Mike Hubbard (Wataga, Ill./ROWVA) and Jamal Layne (Arima, Trinidad).

The Red Devils continued their trend of playing each SLIAC opponent to a closer game than last season. So far, all five conference contests have resulted in better decisions for Eureka when compared to last year. For example in 2007, EC suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of the Gorloks.

Eureka will next take on Greenville College on the road Tuesday, October 14 at 4:00 pm. Greenville got the better of an 8-3 offensive shootout in the two sides' first meeting this season in Eureka on September 16.
