2 Red Devils named SLIAC All-Conference

David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and Brian O'Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) received Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after an end of season vote by league head coaches.

Both transfers, Crady (Bradley University) and O'Malley (Central College), had outstanding seasons in their first year at Eureka, but also benefitted from improved play overall by the Red Devils (4-16, 1-7 SLIAC).

Crady was instrumental in the increase of 27 goals scored by Eureka compared to last season with his superior play in the midfield. His ability to win and keep possession of the ball set up numerous scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. The 5-10 sophomore started and played 19 matches for EC, ranking third on the squad with 14 points (four goals and six assists). Crady registered a hat trick and added two assists October 20 in an 8-2 Eureka victory at Lincoln Christian.

O'Malley was marked by opposing defenses in the league after breaking out to a hot start in non-conference play, but that did not stop him from finishing tied for fourth in the SLIAC with six goals scored in league matches. He also ranked fifth in points with 14. One of seven Red Devils to start all 20 games, the 6-0 junior set season team records with 16 goals and 38 points and a single game record with five goals and 10 points versus Lincoln Christian in Eureka's first ever win as an NCAA program on September 8. O'Malley was on target no matter the opponent. He put in multiple goals in five matches, including two against eventual SLIAC Tournament champion Greenville and three against Westminster, which surrendered just 12 goals in eight SLIAC contests for the year.

As a team, the Red Devils increased their win total by four over last season, recorded their first ever conference win (3-0 versus MacMurray Sept. 30), scored 1.29 more goals per game than in 2007, gave up 1.01 less goals per game than last season and allowed 4.5 less shots on goal per game.
