Men’s Soccer Drops Second Straight Overtime Decision
FRANKLIN, Ind. – One day removed from an overtime loss at Hanover, the Eureka College men’s soccer team fell again in overtime, this time dropping a 4-3 decision at Franklin, Sunday afternoon.
Ray Pena provided the match-winner for Franklin when his shot in the 101st minute beat EC freshman goalkeeper Jay Linsley (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.).
The hosts opened the scoring with a 23rd minute goal from Sinjin LaBonne. Andreas Kapsalis assisted on the tally. Facing the 1-0 deficit, senior midfielder Brian O’Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) scored in the third consecutive game with a strike in the 34th minute to force a 1-1 tie.
With the score tied 1-1 to start the second half, junior Joe Lehman (Washington, Ill./Peoria Christian H.S.) gave Eureka a 2-1 lead with his goal in the 55th minute. The Red Devils held the lead until the 74th minute, but the Grizzlies scored twice in span of 62 seconds to regain the lead on goals from Kapsalis and LaBonne.
