Crady's Header Lifts Eureka Over Blackburn, 4-1

Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior midfielder David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora H.S.) headed home a pair of second half-goals -- including the game-winner in the 55th minute -- to lead the Red Devils to a 4-1 SLIAC victory over Blackburn, Saturday afternoon at Traister Field.

Crady moved through traffic in the box to redirect a pass from junior Serkan Bakirdan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) past Blackburn (6-8-0, 1-4-0 SLIAC) goalkeeper Jacob Peters, giving the Red Devils a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute.  Eureka (5-9-0, 2-3-0 SLIAC) senior Brian O’Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) gave the Red Devils more breathing room when he rifled a free kick past Peters in the 75th minute for a 3-1 lead.  O’Malley, who entered the week tied for the national scoring lead, has found the back of the net in 11 of Eureka’s 14 games this season and has a total of 24 goals.

Crady headed home a second goal moments after O’Malley’s tally when he finished another lob from Bakirdan in the 78th minute.  Crady, who hadn’t scored since a season-opening win over Lincoln Christian on Sept. 1, now has two career multi-goal games.

Sophomore Evan Kingery (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) scored his first career goal in the 22nd minute to put Eureka in front 1-0.  Chris Walker tied the game in the 32nd minute for Blackburn’s lone goal.  Eureka freshman goalkeeper Nate Mullins (South Duxbury, Vt./Harwood Union H.S.) made a career-high 10 saves in the win.

The Red Devils will face non-conference opponent Illinois College this Thursday at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
